Summary

Justice in Unity: Redux is the resurrection of an older project, called simply Justice in Unity. Made in RPG Maker VX Ace, but less of an RPG and more of an interactive story with sleuthing elements, JiURe features two storylines beginning in two separate centuries before eventually joining into one by the end.One storyline, set in near-modern-day France and America, stars French-American Det. Elliot Mortensen, a man plagued by his own inner demons and an overwhelming fear of the dark. The other, set first in Victorian-era England before shifting to the mid-2010s, stars Dr. Mordecai Cheshire, a prideful psychiatrist who is torn between whether he wants to lead a calm or exciting life until the decision is made for him, one way or another.As the story unfolds, the player can watch as their choices either make or break Elliot's relationships, friendships, and sanity, as well as deciding the fates of important characters along the way. There are currently four main routes to choose from, ranging from good to bad, with each side having an extreme: Elliot Pure, Elliot, Dark, and Dark Pure. It is planned that the game will have five parts, developed one after another and released as they are completed.Despite being made in VX Ace with resources for said engine, JiURe also features a lot of resources from RPG Maker XP, including pieces of tilesets and edits of sprites made by Sithjester and Mack, among others. In addition, the game features several scripts, such as ones by MOG, Khas, and Yanfly, including a few somewhat heavily modified with custom traits.The story for the game is progressed in a somewhat linear fashion, by solving cases and completing objectives, and there is no combat, experience, or equipment. It’s simply the player character following the flow of the story, and making their own choices when applicable to see how the context or path itself may change.

Elliot is typically aloof and grouchy. He's a touch paranoid, and has a crippling fear of the dark, as he's convinced there's something watching him from the shadows.
Due to a childhood of abuse and neglect from his mother, he seems to dislike women and lack sympathy, and his sense of humor is either morbid or self-deprecating. But deep down, he's a cheery dork who just wants to be happy.
Despite his distance, when he does make friends, he'd do anything to keep them safe, even if it means facing his greatest fears head-on.

Émilie Mortensen

Having grown up in an abusive household, Émilie tends to be soft-spoken and sensitive. Due to the treatment she received from her stepfather, she's afraid of sexual gestures from men. However, she loves her husband, Elliot, dearly, regardless of the strain this puts on their marriage.
She strives to be a freelance writer, though what exactly she's writing seems to fluctuate, and Elliot can never seem to keep track of it.

Lt. Simon Callahan

Simon comes across as an outgoing optimist and a loving father, keen on making everyone around him happy. What he doesn't often share is info about his past, and how he perhaps wasn't always so chipper.
He loves his wife, Charlotte, and young daughter, Gaëlle, dearly, and wouldn't know what to do without them. However, besides his estranged brother, he doesn't seem especially eager to discuss his other family members...

Mme. Tanya Bellamy

Both terse and eccentric, Bellamy handles her role as police commissioner in her own way, even going so far as to prefer to be referred to as "Madame" rather than her rank. Her method of following procedures is sometimes unique, though sometimes she finds herself low on officers to assign to a case.
While she rarely shows any emotions beyond seriousness or sarcasm, underneath that cold exterior, there may still be some semblance of vulnerability or maternal instinct, as she seems to care most for the wellbeing of certain young women in cases...

Charlotte Callahan

Charlotte is a confident and outspoken woman who feels little shame in saying whatever is on her mind. Sometimes, this may lead her to saying something that comes across as rude, but while she is prone to teasing, her intentions are almost always good.
She enjoys sharing playful banter with her husband, Simon, and going out with her young daughter, Gaëlle, whom she both cherishes deeply as sees as a dear friend.

Maci Leblonne

A waitress at the local Peaches & Cream café, Maci is a high school student with a strong sense of justice. Despite her timid demeanor, she'll do whatever she can to assist if a police case develops in her vicinity.
She also has a passion for baking, which led her to her choice of part-time occupation. It appears as though she may also have an infatuation with Det. Mortensen, but one would be hard-pressed to make her admit as such verbally.

Malachy

Malachy, better known by his real name, Mattieu Delacroix, is a former performer/actor for the Célestins theatre in Lyon. After going missing during rehearsals for his final role, as the lead in a rendition of The Phantom of the Opera, Mattieu reemerged as "Malachy", boasting to be under the direction of a new director, and his first significant act as "Malachy" was one involving kidnapping and violence.
The situation regarding his disappearance and new identity both remain mysteries, and it appears as though Det. Mortensen is one of the only people who gets any chance to encounter him under this new persona.
